I picked some kale from my garden to cook. While cleaning it I found some of the leaves were growing new smaller (as yet) leaves right onto the flat surface of the larger leaves. It is quite fascinating looking. I haven't had time to read up and try to figure out what or why it is doing this. Is it a mutation, a fasciation or whatever. Does kale normally do this? Anyone out there already know? If you took 1 of the regular sized leaves and laid it flat on a table, it has smaller 1/2 to 2" high leaves standing up all over it, looks like a little forest. Very pretty. Carolyn in Los Gatos, Ca.
