Prepositions are so impossible when learning languages, aren't they?  Which 
one you use in which situation seems completely random.  In this case, in 
English we say "from Zadar in the Adriatic area of Croatia" or "from Zadar 
on the Adriatic coast (if it is on the coast...)".  "In" goes with area or 
country; "on" goes with coast.  I guess because we think of a coast as 
being two-dimensional, and the others as being three-dimensional.  Like I 
said, pretty random :-).

Not that I can think of (anyone else?).  I think we more often say "red 
clay", but that's practically the same thing.

I think it's brave to post in a language not your native one :-).  I like 
learning languages, too, so I'm happy to answer language-related questions 
when I see someone posting them.  Hmmm, maybe I should have sent this in 
email and not to the list since it's kinda off-topic.  Sorry, folks.
