According to "Wescott's Plant Disease Handbook",
Cotoneasters get at least five diseases in California.
As many as 14 or so throughout the country.
According to Pasquale P. Pirone in his "Diseases and
Pests of Ornamental Plants", Cotoneaster is subject to
eight key pests (some of which may not occur in
California).
As for practical experience, I see almost NO serious
pests on the common Cotoneaster in my neck of the
woods.
This sounds a bit like so many books that say "roses
are subject to hundreds of diseases and pests", which
is literally true. But it would be a rare rose that
would find itself so fraught with pain.
The only serious problem I ever see with Cotoneasters
is that they are too frequently planted in the wrong
location. Of the many species and cultivars, why is
it that BIG ones are planted in SMALL spaces?!
