RE: instead of forsythia

The question was raised whether Kerria japonica needs winter chill to bloom
successfully. I grew it for years in Oakland, a mild-winter area, and it
bloomed extremely well.

The one I grew was Kerria japonica pleniflora, I think; double flowers. A
couple of weeks ago I saw a single-flowered one in a Portland (Oregon)
garden; quite beautiful, and in full bloom in mid-April.

Forestfarm Nursery in Oregon listed it in their Fall 2001 catalog, and also
listed a white variety, "Albiflora."

wet days.
