I don't know much about how the smell varies among the different cultivars
of Magnolia grandiflora, but all the specimens here in the Madrid area (both
cultivars and straight species) have flowers with some sort of lemon-like
scent and I have always associated that smell with Magnolia grandiflora
flowers.
