Just a thought---it might have to do with the combination of heat and
moisture in the air in the South. I often notice that there seems to be more
fragrance to the very same plants when I smell them in England, as compared
to here in our Southern California dry heat.

I m sure you are right Laura about moisture often helping the scent to
manifest itself. I have the impression that a marked drop in temperature
may work the same, but this not very likely to be a problem I guess in
the area you are discussing.
