R: Ipomea alba

 Morning Gill,

the most problem I think is to become fresh seeds. Ipomea alba seeds are very large and usually not long viable (as many large seeds). I usually try to over winter a small plant or cuttings to have a quite large plant to plant out in the garden beginning of may (I'm zone 8). Seeds no older than one year will germinate without any problems (giving 20-25°C bottom heat) in 4-5 days. I never use soaking or other methods but they may help.

Best regards,

Luca

Does anyone have any tips on germinating Ipomea alba seeds?  I've raised all the other Ipomeas I've tried without difficulty but find I alba very difficult.  Have tried filing the seeds, soaking them for various periods of time, keeping them in a mini greenhouse with undersoil heating  ... and combinations of these.  All tips gratefully received!
