On the drive from San Diego to Tahoe and back this past week, I was shocked at the extensive Cytisus invasion along road cuts and hillsides. On the same trip, I stopped at a favorite nursery in the Sacramento area and saw a beautiful shrub with burgundy, leguminous flowers. When I got near enough to se the label, it said "Cytisus 'Mahogany.'" Does anyone know whether this selection of Cytisus is invasive?
I'd love to grow the plant but I absolutely do not want to take the chance if it is known to escape cultivation.
Nan
