Gilia capitata looks good almost year-round for me in the SF Bay Area. It's a native annual wildflower, about a foot high, grown in a part of the garden that gets summer water. I let some of it go to seed in summer both for wildlife and so that I can collect some seed, so at times some of it looks scruffy. But I get flowers most of the year, and when there aren't flowers, there's usually the beautiful ferny light green foliage.

And Cathy, the Anagallis you suggested is very pretty - it reminds me of lithodora which, by the way, I have tried, as well as several of my plantsperson friends, all with little success. It lasts a year, no more. Anyone have success with it? Or suggestions?
