Cindy! How surprising to find you here, don't tell me you were a member of this group in the past, I have been a member for about 15 years. So we must have been virtually familiar far before meeting in your garden during the MGS trip last October!
However, the plant is indeed a Furcraea longeva, and it is somewhat surprising that yours is blooming, as all the plants we have at La Mortella are blooming now as well, whereas in the past every year only a few did (and then of course died). I wonder if there is something in the air or the astronomical situation that explains it, I knew that plants would bloom only when they were older than 10, but ours are ALL in bloom, even the younger ones. It means that in a short time we will have literally thousands of plantulets everywhere, but the mother plants will disappear form the landscape, what a sad thing. I posted a photo in our facebook group called Amico dei Giardini La Mortella, and others will be posted on www.lamortella.org.
I still think of your beautiful Salvias...
Ciao,
Alessandra

Dear All,It has been some time since I posted to this group. The last photo I posted was thankfully identified by several members. This plant has been growing in my garden for at least seven years. For some strange reason I had it in my head that the original gift was of Beschornaria yuccoides. Now many years on it has produced a flower spike after the worst winter storm in Mallorca since 1956, one can only imagine! The leaves appear to be that of a yucca but now the flower spike of a agave. Many thanks in advance.Regards,Cindy EvansFinca Sa ClaraboyaEsporles MallorcaSpainIMG_1315
