Re: information about Nigella sativa and the edibility of N. damascena seed?

The Plants for a Future database give Nigella damascena the same edibility rating as Nigella sativa.

I haven't tried them both myself yet.

I'm curious - I wrote this over on the facebook group but I wonder if
anyone here might know something? the question was about Nigella sativa -

"As near as I can tell, Nigella sativa grows as easily as it cousin,
Nigella damascena. Sow in place, easy in any soil. Feathery foliaged
annual. It will also self-seed like N. damascena. The jury seems to be
out about the ediblility of Nigella damascena - some sources say it is
edible, others express concern. I would bet it might not be as flavorful
as N. sativa, but there seems little evidence of alerts about toxicity.
The way I am told to tell the difference between the plants is the the
foliage of N. sativa is flattish, whereas in N. damascena it is round in
cross-section."
