This is the problem with common names don't you think? Whilst they
are easy to pronounce and often appear to make sense initially, they
cause immense confusion when used as a sole means of identifying a
plant. Common names are exceptionally variable and tend to be
'localised' to an area or at least a country. If I'd have said
'Petticoat Palm' without any further mention of it's real identity,
very few people would have known what I was talking about.
