mystery plant

Hi All
My mother lives in Vista California (between LA and SD). She sent me, in
the mail three cuttings of a plant that has volunteered in their garden. I
stuck them in water and they perked up right away. It is so tough I expect
it to put out roots any minute. Any way, the leaves look like Oenothera
berlandieri. The mashed flowers look like they may have been similar to the
above but white with purple....

A few weeks ago you were identifying a plant for someone which I didn't pay
much attention to--maybe this is the same plant--was it Devils something?

If I get a flower to open I can describe it too. What do you think?
