Tough as nails, that's how I think of Bulbine. I live in USDA 10b/ll
(Sunset 24), and here, bulbine is bulletproof. It blooms in shade or sun,
it seems never to need to be waters and blooms nearly year round. We did
have a few nights of frost last winter and several things around my bulbine
suffered or died, but it continued as if nothing happened. Basically, I
don't see how you could go wrong with it. By the way, my bulbine came from
a friend of a friend who was dividing hers and left it sit outside uprooted
for a week or so before I got it. It never even gave a hint of wilting in
all that time.
Have fun with it! By the way, did you get a yellow flowering bulbine or
one of the newer dwarf species that has orange flowers?

So goes an old chinese proverb:
If you want to be happy for a few hours, get drunk;
If you want to be happy for a week-end get married;
If you want to be happy for a week, barbeque a pig;
If you want to be happy all your life long become a gardener
