eucalyptus history

Dear Medit Planters-
In looking through a family timeline of my great grandfather, I came across
a fascinating tidbit of plant history I thought I would share with you.

According to the time line, my great grandfather (Levi Daniel Johnson) met
Bishop William Taylor (Bishop of the Methodist church) in 1885 on a boat
going to Africa (my great grandfather was en route to be a missionary).
The Bishop continued on to Australia, where he brought back the first
eucalyptus seeds to California!

I don't have any independent confirmation of this, and thought maybe some
of you might know.
