Crocosmia 'Lucifer' does exceptionally well for me. I grow it in two
places; one, in fairly good loam in the herbaceous border and two, in the
gravelly, poor, monocot area. It thrives in both places to the extent that
each year I must thin it all out in order not to have an overwhelming forest
of these tall, striking flower spikes. It lookes terrific planted along side
other grass like plants such as Miscanthus varieties, white Watsonias,
Kniphofias, and Phormiums.
Other smashing plants are C. masoniorum and C. 'Solfatare'
Val Dennison.
