This is what puzzled me.  Now I realise you can't compare the
continental climate of much of the US with our oceanic climate that
ranges from cool temperate through to cool sub tropic, but I've always
looked upon the 'Snow Gum' to be the toughest and most reliable of all
in this country, growing well in almost all but the most exposed and
freezing locations.  If any species is likely to succeed in cooler but
not frigid parts of the US., I would have put money on it being E.
niphophylla, sorry - E. pauciflora ssp. niphophylla.
