Actually P. radiata is native here in monterey. It blankets the hills and
makes Monterey look all piney and nice =). Also you would be hard pressed
to find anyone here who would want the pines logged. Theyre fairly rare
here and are mostly decorative (in Carmel you have to have a permit to
remove ANY tree, and that is hard to obtain. In fact, one road splits to
go around a P. radiata!)
There are some Eucs that are quite nice (some with vey willow like leaves
and weeping habits are beautiful). But a lot of them are notoriously
brittle and i remember seeing a couple split right in half by the wind
storm here a couple of weeks ago.
