I've never grown, but do admire it.  New book just published by the So.
Calif. Horticultural Society, "Selected Plants for Southern California
Gardens"  says the mature plant expands to a 20 ft. circle. And the
bloom stalk goes 15 to 18 ft. It also states that the plant can be grown
in a container for many years which sounds like the way to go.

I really like this new book which is an exhaustive compilation of all
the plants brought to the plant forum at meetings of the So. Cal. Hort
Soc. Most helpful are the gardener's comments included after most
entries. These are coded to indicate what part of the larger LA basin
they originate from.  You "gotta get it!'
