Interesting discussion on this species - I hadn't heard about the possible
threats to plants in the wild. It hasn't received much publicity in
Sydney so I wonder how real the problem is.
Regarding the reported absorbtion of Angophora into Eucalyptus (along with
Corymbia) - the jury is still out on this. A recent paper by Ian Brooker
has made this revision but it's anyone's guess whether it will be accepted.
I know the rules of nomenclature allow it but it seems just a bit absurd
that a plant without a bud cap (Angophora) would be included in a genus
whose very name means "has a bud cap".(Eucalyptus).
If Brooker's re-classification is eventiually accepted, A.costata will be
Eucalyptus apocynifolia, apparently because the name Eucalyptus costata has
already been used for another plant.
