I planted some soy beans in May, thanks to Tom Scut and Ann Conlon. At that
time my first year of no-til soil was soft and wonderful. Some of the beans
were planted straight in the ground and some I put in pots. I soaked some
of them and not others. The ones in the pots disappeared totally, as if
they disolved. Of the ones in the ground, only a few came up and the others
either disintegrated or were devoured by something - slugs, cutworms....
I have about four plants which made it and am harvesting the beans. My
questions are: should the beans be soaked before planting? How much water
should they get during the growing period? What critters might be eating
soy bean seedlings?
