Where only one plant dies in an otherwise healthy row I would suspect
some problem with the soil - either a patch of poor drainage or even a
soil disease. In case it should be the latter it would be worth removing
the dead plant togther with a good bucketful of soil to clear away any
pathogen before it can spread. This might equally help to correct
something like local a drainage problem. Replacing the soil in this spot
with good soil from some other part of the garden would help to make
the area safe to replant and hopefully the problem would not recur.
On the other hand it could just be the odd plant which had a poor
constitution, but the precaution won't do any harm anyway.
