Joe is partly right - College Station is a bit dryer than Houston as far as
the humidity level but Bryan, College Station is only 1.5 hours from Houston
but a good 3 hours from the Coast. I live just west of Houston and I'm in
zone 9.....College Station gets as hot as us (maybe even a few degrees
hotter) but they also get much colder in the winter - often as much as 10
degrees colder. Drought is often an issue in this area too.
What type plants is your friend interested in? Does he want natives...will
he be irrigating or looking for somethng that survive the elements on their
own?
There is a nursery about 45 minutes from him called YuccoDo (just outside of
Hempstead)....here he can find many plants that should work for him - many
salvia's too.
