Pam,
Just out of curiosity, do you have locations for where
it is naturalized in San Mateo County? I grew up
there, and never noticed this growing there say 25
years ago...(But it could just be I wasn't really
paying attention to what I was seeing). Is it more
prevalent in coastside riparian corridors that have
been disturbed? This is the habitat most similar to
where I saw it up in Seattle, and I wouldn't imagine
this naturalizing in hotter or drier sites, or being
able to survive in the deep shade of Coast Redwood
Forest.
