re:goat proof plants

I went walking up in the Oakland Hills today, specifically to notice what
plants were untouched by the herds of goats hired by the city to munch the
dry grasses and invasive weeds during fire season. They do an extremely
effective job, the only plants left were the scotch broom, bay laurel, and
eucalyptus. They ate the wild berries, poison oak, yellow star thistle,
mowed all the grasses....you get the idea. The goats are tended by Peruvian
goatherds and a couple of cute but noisy dogs; their services have been used
for about 5 years now, and their range seems to grow every year. More and
more cities and landowners are hiring them instead of burning or using
chemicals...and as one wag noted, they provide their own fertilizer.
