I'm interested in agnus vitex castus as a result of reading

and in the photos it looks very large. Are there smaller
varieties?

Barbara, I've had my Vitex for about 6 years and I have been able to maintain a small tree with minimal efforts. I live just west of Houston in Zone 9, some say 8b. I think we get just cold enough to keep the Vitex from reaching the 20+ feet in height. Mine is kept around 14 feet max (during the growing season). Each spring I trip prune the tree to keep it about the same size. This year I had to prune off some shoots from the bottom but it's easily done. The Vitex wants to grow into a nice full bush but I'm not about to allow that to happen. There are large bushes growing along the freeways in Houston, I've never seen one exceed about 15 feet.
I think you probably get much colder in Berkley than we do here along the Gulf Coast.....I think that your Vitex should be kept at a modest size just from the winter freezes.
