Re: Prostanthera Identity (was length of flowering?)

P. rotundifolia and P. ovalifolia both tend to be
rather ephemeral bloomers here in the SF Bay
Area(Zones 9/10) as well. I have never had either
bloom for much longer than 6 weeks, usually in late
spring/early summer for me. I have never had any
repeat bloom at other seasons. There are several
other Prostanthera species grown at UC Santa Cruz
Botanic Garden .... I also had a dwarf
groundcover species with an extended season of white
flowers and very deep green foliage, but can't
remember the species, which I had also purchased at
UCSC.
Hi David
This is almost certainly P cuneata (alpine Mint Bush). I grew it myself at one time but eventually lost it.

Prostrantheras seem to be out of fashion here these days and hard to come by. Like many other countries I guess, our local nursery trade, which used to offer a brilliant selection of interesting exotic plants, gets more and more dummed down each year. The only good recent development is that they now seem to carry an extended list of cultivars of our excellent native shrub flora. (But I should like some more of the overseas stuff as well).
