Along the highway that goes through my county (along the
Pacific) scores of Monterey pines have been chopped down. One can readily see
the brown branches, indicating a tree is on its way. I look with
trepidation at the ones on my property - but no signs yet. I have native
arctostaphylos, Arbutus menziesii, cornus, Pinus contorta,Sequoia
sempervirens,loquats, a few acacia,ceanothus species, and other trees - I
hope this mix will save the pines.
