The Garden Conservancy presents
Garza's Camden Street Garden in Oakland
A "Speaking from Experience" workshop
with Anthony Garza in his Oakland garden
New Naturalism: Weaving Form, Foliage & Texture in a Regionally Appropriate Mediterranean Garden
Anthony Garza, Supervisor of Horticulture and Grounds, University of California Botanical Garden, Berkeley
When: Saturday, August 13, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., East Bay
Fee: $35 member/$45 non-members. Limited enrollment.
Garza's Camden Street garden in Oakland presents his take on European New Naturalism for the West Coast, using textural plants like grasses along with more subtle species and non-cultivar perennials and shrubs. The intent is to evoke a sense of being out among an open but intriguing field of forms, foliage, and texture. Plant selection leans heavily toward species from Mediterranean climates, New Zealand and Mexico, providing a year-round visual appeal. Maintenance is moderate, depending on the season and the level of tidiness deemed appropriate.
This informal workshop introduces design concepts and installation practicalities, and will stimulate ideas for both home gardeners and landscape professionals. Garza will elaborate on the process of creating and maintaining the garden, reviewing plans and before/after photos as available.
Garza's Camden Street Garden was open for the July 30th Open Day of the Garden Conservancy.
