Nan,
Desert to Jungle no longer exists in Montebello, and
the second location of Gary's former growing grounds
is now called Worldwide Exotics, and still has some of
the plants that Gary Hammer was known for, but the
nursery is unfortunately only a shadow of what it once
was. The nursery is right off the Hwy in Lakeview
Terrace, but I didn't see much there when I last
passed through back in May. Gary Hammer is now living
down in Mexico, and while he is still dealing in
plants to a more limited extent, he is not providing
them through a nursery outlet, but instead is doing
flea market sales in places like Pasadena, when he is
back in town every couple of months.
I wish he were still in business, because I miss his
nursery, and especially browsing his plants outside
his former house in Lakeview Terrace, which didn't
often make it to either of his nursery sites.
I have also heard rumors that Tom Piergrossi in north
county San Diego is going out of business, can you
confirm when he will be closing up shop and moving to
Hawaii?
