Re: Time to share

Hi,

I don't know where I read  that Protea should not be watered when it's hot.  I thought that the article was referring to the more delicate leucospermum rather than the hardy leucodendron.  Still, all my Protea are in my dry garden, so they're all treated the same.   I have more than a dozen leucadendron that appear happy.  I've watered them with sprinklers only once this summer, when it was cool.  The soil is clay here in Santa Monica.  I never fertilize.

I do have a question.  Does anyone know what to do about an infestation of white aphids in aloes?  The new leaves of Aloe 'Hercules' and Aloe bainesii, in my dry garden, are covered with aphids each year..  I clean them with soap and water; a few weeks later the aphids return.  I have put out ant sticks that do little good.

Thanks.

Hi Everyone

I've posted a few questions over the last week and received many responses, thank you all!  The  responses have nearly all been off-list, so I am the only lucky person to see them.  At the same time, I've received several emails from members asking what I've heard.

My friends, it seems time to go back to sharing on the list.  We've done it for so many, may years (I have listserv emails going back to at least 1999!) and its what makes this group such a wonderful cadre of gardeners.

So, I'd like to ask a favor - if you've responded to my emails asking about Chelsea or Hampton Court flower shows, or why I'm losing leucadendrons in the summer heat, please repost your answer to the listerv.

I treasure every answer and I know everyone else does as well.

Nan

PS  If you prefer that I post the emails, just let me know.
