| Hi, I don't know where I read that Protea should not be watered when it's hot. I thought that the article was referring to the more delicate leucospermum rather than the hardy leucodendron. Still, all my Protea are in my dry garden, so they're all treated the same. I have more than a dozen leucadendron that appear happy. I've watered them with sprinklers only once this summer, when it was cool. The soil is clay here in Santa Monica. I never fertilize. I do have a question. Does anyone know what to do about an infestation of white aphids in aloes? The new leaves of Aloe 'Hercules' and Aloe bainesii, in my dry garden, are covered with aphids each year.. I clean them with soap and water; a few weeks later the aphids return. I have put out ant sticks that do little good. Thanks.
