Now you can hardly let me pass this by without some form of comment!

Many parts of the UK have exceptionally good growing conditions and
Wisterias of great size and age abound in many gardens throughout the
country.  The southern part of Britain probably has even better
growing conditions than Tasmania since winters are generally much
milder (particularly in the South West) and summer temperatures are
not so high as to curtail growth.

Absolutely, seed grown plants are extremely variable and you cannot
get varieties to come true.  When I had my nursery, we used to sell
grafted plants of varieties of W. floribunda (macrobotrys was
favourite) and W. sinensis.  This would dramatically shorten the wait
for flowering although W. floribunda still took its time.  In 1975, we
planted a 250 yard long, double pergola with W. sinensis, floribunda
'Macrobotrys', f. 'Macrobotrys Alba' and interspersed these with whips
of Laburnum x  'Vossi' which were carefully trained up and over.
Within 6 years this became a fantastic feature that remained
spectacular for nearly 2 months of the year.  Effectively it became a
tunnel filled with fragrant chains of yellow, deep violet, blue and
white chains of bloom.  I would recommend anyone with a bit of
patience and a fair amount of room to try it.
