I must be setting a record for lateness replying to a post, but I was
trying to make sure I wasn't bouncing mail with so much of it I've yet
to read, and couldn't resist taking a few moments regarding the posts on
Salvia divinorum.
I'm a little confused about the ethnobotany, I've seen an interview with
Gordon Wasson reprinted that says that primarily the seeds are used.
Granted even this is a curiosity, since I've yet to hear of nature
producing a *perfect* entheogen, but I do wish I knew better what to
expect of it in regards to it's setting seed.
Although it seems very easy to cultivate, and I've obtained starts from
both Companion Plants and Well-Sweep Herb Farm, to name those priced
within reason, I've managed to kill several specimens because of periods
of not attending the plant, when a succeptibility to red spider mites
proved fatal. I would enjoy being able to start it from seed in hopes of
circumventing that, since I've never been able to physically remove red
spider from Salvias elegans and involucrata, probably my unwillingness
to use a systemic insecticide, along with some difficulties maintaining
humidity under flourescents...
Is it correct that besides the constituents of Salvia divinorum being
notable as diterpene entheogens, they are also notable for being
non-nitrogenous?
I could imagine that the constituents of many Salvias noted as
euphoriants/ antidepressants would be affecting neurotransmitters in
some way, and it's probably not far a reach to speculate the same about
the Salvinorins, but I am curious about
the reference to showing promise in unravelling learning disorders.
I am wondering if Richard Dufresne, or anyone, might have any more to
say on that matter?
Many thanks.
