I removed the perennials@mallorn.com address since I'm not familar with
that group.
I am interested in what perennials people grow in pots --
Orchids. Houseplant types (indoors and out).
* What kinds of pots do you use and why
Whatever I find for free ;-)
* What are special considerations for growing perennials in pots (as
opposed to annuals)
Root size. Wintering.
* What soil and fertilizers do you use
Ordinary organic potting soil. I don't fertilize. Though I will probably
find some organic fertilizer appropriate for potted plants to use
occaisionally. I have used fish emulzion in hte past but it smells so not
good for indoors.
* WHY do you choose to grow perennials in pots (as opposed to in the
ground)
1. Can grow indoors
2. They came that way (I inherited a bunch of plants...and all my orchids
when my mom died).
3. If you rent and/or move a lot having plants in pots is a big plus since
you don't have to leave everything behind.
4. I plan to put a potted herb garden on my front porch. It's 6 steps down
the front and 4 down the back and my cooking herbs are all around the
house. I am physically disabled and simply can't walk that much. And
sending the SO out produces some interesting errors...fushia leaves when I
asked for parsley and lavender for rosemary. This way I can pick a leaf or
two without climbing any stairs.
5. Pots are good as accents and you can move them around so the blooming
ones are visable.
6. You can move plants for tempature, light, water, etc.
