This is one area that I can help with. It roots with almost the same
ease as an ordinary Impatiens and tips, trimmed to just below a leaf
node will ever root in water after about 10-14 days. More
conventionally a 50/50 peat moss/coarse sand or perlite mix will give
good results if kept moist.

The tuber is, as you say barely definable, but if you look very
carefully, there is a noticeable thickening of the main stem and this
area of thickening should be approximately half to one inch below soil
level. Very thin tubers cannot retain enough moisture and vitality if
they have been stored for any length of time. If the plant is to be
stored in this way, they should be stored in peat moss or coarse sand
to prevent excessive and ultimately, fatal desiccation.
