I can't help with your Douglas Fir problem (except with sympathy), but I
can say a bit about the mildew. Contrary to what most people would
expect mildew is a disease of hot, dry weather and often worst towards
Autumn, when the lower night temperatutes encourage dew to form on the
dry leaves and give the fungus spores a good start.
