Cistus - pruning or not?

Hello!

I read conflicting advice about pruning Cistus. Some boks recommend not to
touch the plants, better to replace them, other advise pruning right after
flowering to keep them young and in shape. What do you think?. How 'hard'
can be this pruning, in case it should be possible?
