While it is still a fledgeling site, the Mediterranean Climate Gardening
web site has an extensive bibliographic list of pertinent titles, many
dealing directly with designing gardens in our climates.  Check out the

There are a few book reviews linked to this page (more will be comming

'Mediterranean Gardening : A Waterwise Approach' by

These three works are often 'off my shelf' as I routinely
refer to them.  They contain lots of information, organized
is different ways, with regard to designing gardens in our
unique climates.  There are many other important works that
feature famous gardens in various Mediterranean climates as
well as approaching that might be used for designs.  If anyone
finds a title lacking from the above web page, please, do not
hesitate to let me know.  I am also veru interested in responses
to the titles listed - it is always good to hear someone's first
hand impression of these books, and whether or not they found 
them useful in their horticultural pursuits.
