I don't know the name of the wasps. Two of them are what we call yellow
jackets, one honey-bee sized, and the other smaller. They aren't actually
doing much, though. The ones who are cleaning up the plants thoroughly
are also yellow and black, but with a real wasp-waist (looking as though
they've been chopped in half), narrow wings, and long yellow legs that
trail behind them when they fly.
I also received a report on wasps cleaning up a scale-ridden gardenia in
Ontario, so it is not just a local phenomenon.
My father, a bee-keeper, is not as pleased with wasps as I - one of his
hives lost all its bees to wasps.
