I grow Bromeliads here in Napa and not all as house plants. You have to
remember that some Bromeliads grow in the mountains of the tropics and can
survive quite a bit of cold. If you go to the Napa City /County Library and
look at Victoria Padilla's book on Bromeliads you can see a photo of a very
large Puya (a terrestrial Brom) growing high in the Andes... Pretty cold and
wind blown there.
Charles is much more knowledable than I am about the plants. In fact quite a
few of the plants I have are through his generosity. I'm sure he could advise
you on what plants do well.
