Black spots on Cistus populifolius

Hello everyone, but especially Cistus experts!
A few years ago I grew a large number of Cistus populifolius from seed
in order to populate a new garden which was very exposed to the
tramontane winds. They succeeded very well until last year when there
was an outbreak of branch die back leading to death in some cases. The
leaves on affected shrubs have some kind of sooty black spots on their
undersides. I wonder if it is a fungus called Anthracnose. It does not
seem to be a result of an aphid attack as there are none to be seen.
Any ideas as to treatment would be greatly appreciated.
