Folks -
I just had to tell you about a new book I've been reading, and am now
re-reading. It is entitled 'Making a Garden on a Greek Hillside', written
by Mary Jaqueline Tyrwhitt. The Garden in question is her property,
Sparoza, which is now the headquarters of the Mediterranean Garden Society.
I have been thoroughly enjoying the book which is written in a
month-by-month progression through the year. Each month's section contains
information about the local culture, climate, fauna, and (of course) flora,
both within and without Sparoza. It gives a clear view of a mediterranean
climate, with its assets and problems, and shows how a people (the Greeks)
have adapted to its rigors. I highly recommend ordering yourselves a copy
- all proceeds go toward the benefit of the MGS.
To find more information, go to the Medit-Plants site:
http://www.support.net/Medit-Plants/
and select the link on that page to the Mediterranean Garden Society.
Happy reading!
Regards,
Sean O.
