Isoplexis chalcantha & a Canary Is query
Re Nan's query and Peter's comments:
Nan, if you keep old Medit-Plants' postings on file, you'll find my
own Isoplexis query of perhaps a couple of months back - and Nick
Turland's as-ever-deeply-informative reply, including info. about I.
calcantha.
Peter: Surely FOUR, not three? What about I. sceptrum? Nick also, by
the way, provided the info. that Berndt Malmus is the chap to offer
seed of most of these Canary Is. rarities - see his list at www.
rareplants. He offers I. isabellina at the moment, I think, though I'm
not sure about I. chalcantha.
Incidentally, mention of Canary Is. plants makes me wonder (out loud!)
why some C.I. plants seem feasible in mild UK gardens, others
apparently not. E.g., Euphorbia canariensis looks a splendid and
dramatic plant - IN PHOTOGRAPHS! - but I've never seen it in a UK
garden or seen seed of it offered in the UK. Can conditions from place
to place on the Canaries vary THAT much?? Ie., will E. can. simply
stand no frost at all? You gather that I want to be tempted...
