Botanically speaking, I can give you this information. The genus name was
coined in 1981. First the plant was Gnaphalium serpyllifolium Berg. and
after that Helichrysum serpyllifolium (Berg.) Pers. It is from South
Africa. Quoting from Flora of Southern Africa, "Ranges from the Cape
Peninsula through the coastal districts to Grahamstown and East London, then
surely along the Transkei coast (but no records) to its northernmost
stations on the Natal coast between Port Edward and Umdoni Park, Umzinto
district. Grows in damp sandy places often near the sea, but in the
southern and western Cape also on the lower slopes of the mountains.
Flowering recorded between November and August, but at its peak in April."

Hi Folks -
I'm researching Plecostachys serpyllifolia. Its name is often mis-spelt
(so figure, eh?!) and it was once known both as Helichrysum petiolare
microphyllum and H. microphyllum. Does anyone have any information they can
impart about this species? I think it is native to South Africa, but am not
sure.
