Since and although Olivier Filippi-THE Oleander expert (and participant of this discussion group)- didn't come up yet into this Oleander debate to defend one of his favourite plants, I would like to inform Oleander fans that his nursery in Southern France, offers the largest possible variety of Oleanders-different sizes -from 40 cm to 4m, with single, double and triple flowers ,variable blooming periods and fragrance ,resistance to cold -from -4 to -15 degrees centigrades and varieties more or less drought tolerant.
Nerium oleander is a Mediterrranean native but I was interested
by Filippi's mention that the oleanders that are being cultivated are probable
hybrids between the medit. N.oleander and N.indicum that comes from Afghanistan,Pakistan,India,China,
Japan.
I wonder how different is the native N.indicum from our native
N.oleander.
Moreover, and for the information even of the non Oleanders' fans ,there is a very rich, interesting and useful catalogue of Filippi nursery named "Plants for a dry garden".
As Olivier has often plant -hunted in Greece, I have found through
him some rare greek natives which I have introduced in the small botanical
garden of Kaisariani in Athens when working there. Actually Filippi has
more greek native plants than the greek nurseries...
His e-mail is :olivier.filippi@wanadoo.fr .
I would also like to add that I have been following with great interest, profit
and pleasure the group's discussions for some months now .You ,the active
participants, must know that a large(?)'silent majority' is very grateful
to you...
