Astelia waialealeae

Mach - Many thanks for the info - and the offer (of [possible] seed)!

I guess for me it would have to be essentially an under-glass plant,
ata least over winter: I'm on the west coast of the UK, with few and
light frosts most winters (none at all so far this one, for example,
and only two nights of -1C in the whole of the one before) - but on
the other hand with very little heat in summer, so really marginal
plants sometimes disappointingly fail to harden off sufficiently to
manage the sort of lows they could manage in the wild.

Even so, I'd love to try it! So if you do get the chance of some seed,
then, yes, please. So far as I know there would be no problem about
posting small, non-commercial quantities of such seed to the UK. No
astelia is ever likely to become a pest over here: would that it
might!

Incidentally, does anyone know who the Menzies was after whom A.
menziesiana and presumably Dracophyllum menziesii were named?

Best wishes -
Tim
