While on the subject of Justicias. I know they're looked down on now, but
the common old shrimp plant - Justicia brandegeana - mustn't be overlooked
as a marginal Med. plant either. For me they flower year round, sun or shade
& again, for something that doesn't look as though it should be, is
remarkably drought hardy. Theres several new varieties available here now
too, which extends their range of usage quite nicely.

Glenn: Oh, I hope Justicia's aren't going out of favor - they are one of my
favorite plants. As you said, they provide so much color year round for me
(except if we get a freeze) and they are a hummingbird and butterfly magnet.
Below is a link that will let you view the Justicia's (and their likes) that
are grown in my garden. My Megaskepasma picture is one from a greenhouse
that I visited in August - I understand that the color of the bloom can/will
change with various cultural conditions. I bought one when I visited but I
haven't had the pleasure of mine blooming yet - hopefully next year.
