Three extremely greedy exotic species are gobbling up most of the water and
native flora in California
these are Bos taurus, Ovis aries, and Homo sapiens.

Not to throw cold water on the subject, but this statement sent up an alarm
signal to me. Too many of the plants that have escaped cultivation in
California and threaten our fragile native flora are tough invaders of this
sort (Tamarix comes to mind) that will establish themselves along desert
watercourses and basically out-compete the native plants for every drop of
water. Although I haven't seen this species mentioned as one of those weedy
pests, it's something to consider--especially for those of us who live in or
near fragile desert ecosystems.
