I am pretty sure the Pohutukawa (as it is known at home) would manage
very nicely. Those which don't grow on the side of cliffs are often
often found on he sandy soils next to the beach.
one thing which has been found about it in recent times is that it is
pretty sensitive to a lot of treading on its root zone. Quite a few
trees at beach resorts in the north have become unthrifty or even died
because of this problem.
