New Lavandula discussion group

Title: New Lavandula discussion group
Dear Mediterranean Plants Group member,

For a long time I have wanted to start an e-mail discussion group devoted to sharing knowledge and experiences related to the genus Lavandula.  At last, it is a reality. I just have established it as Lavandula@egroups.com.  I am hoping that you will want to join the group and that you will have recommendations for others who might wish to join and exchange ideas and engage in lively discussions about the histories and properties of some of our favorite plants.

The genus Lavandula is native to the lands surrounding the Mediterranean Sea (including the Canary Islands and Madeira) east through Ethopia and Arabia to India.   It includes at least 20 species, dozens of subspecies, and hundreds of hybrids and selected cultivars.   At least since Medieval times, lavenders have been sources of perfumes, soaps, flavorings, medicines, and crafts.   Today they are grown for their fragrant leaves and flowers, as nectar sources for bees and butterflies, and for their landscape value.   All these and any other aspects of lavenders are grist for this mill.   Join this group and exchange your knowledge and experiences with others who share this interest.
